Why “Goat Song Records”?
Before YouTube or Netflix, before CDs or vinyl, before comedy clubs, spotlights, or even theater itself…there were goat songs.
In ancient Greece, people would adorn themselves in goat skins to mimic satyrs, and devote their impudent, often raunchy monologues to the revelrous wine god Dionysus at festivals in his honor. Competitions were held for the best and funniest, \ birthing the dramatic arts in the Western world, and our foremost comedians today honor this audacious legacy.

Goat Song Records is a new stand-up comedy label headquartered in Nashville. As a boutique, exclusive label, its focus will be on quality over quantity- working with very established comics through catalog management, “from-video” audio projects, and original recordings– and also including only the best in mid-level and emerging artists.
Goat Song Records celebrates the craft of comedy, the art of joke writing, and the magic of performance. Stand-up comedy is a collection of exaggerations and skillful lies– an ethical gray area of creative insincerity designed to lead you into surprise and delight. It plays with your beliefs, manipulates your assumptions, and tests your tolerance. It is not a safe space.
Goat Song will actively promote intelligent, unique, brilliant, transgressive material designed for discriminating comedy fans, with a contemporary social media strategy and a focus on building a like-minded community of fans. Our world will be an oasis of smart comedy- a respite from car-seat TikTokers and one-trick crowd-work ponies.

Spotify, especially, will be a curated showcase of a wide-spectrum of label-agnostic audio. Expect a steady release of thematic playlists by subject, demographic, and style. Think collections on the volatile subjects of race, politics, sex and religion, but also sports, family, and pop culture. There will be playlists on dark humor and self-deprecating material. All of these will be presented regardless of what label released the tracks. As an exclusive to members of our free mailing list, members can access a frequently updated playlist featuring the best of the newest stand-up that has been released.
As the YouTube page grows and gets built out, we will have a playlist based on your suggestions, where we can all share our favorite finds.
